The late-ripening clone 99 was imported through the French ENTAV program and it was sourced from a famous vineyard near Avignon in Southern France. Despite having bigger berries and clusters than most other clones, it consistently gives rise to the richest, darkest wines at the Colibri Vineyard.  Mid-weight and impeccably balanced, this wine smacks of the old world. It has classic gunflint, blackberry and boysenberry, distinctive black-green herbal and peppery spice notes and a rich, expressive palate that is bolstered by the sweet and savory notes brought on by barrel ageing.  If you are a Francophile and love the Rhone, this will fit the bill.
