There is no denying that our winemaking team has a distinct love for old world wines, particularly those from the Rhone. What does that mean to us? It means a wine has balance, finesse, and the alcohol (regardless of the level) does not stick out or dominate the wine. It means the wine has ample acidity and goes well with food and it must be subtly oaked. It also suggests that the fruit profile is not over saturated and bombastic, but rather fits in with the other characters (often a rustic earthiness, subtle spice and maybe even herbs de Provence). This Pick 3, Syrah Clone 99 from Colibri jumped out to us in all of these ways and more, compelling us to bottle it all by itself and name it appropriately.
