The lean granitic soils of Colibri Vineyards in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona produce some of the most distinctive and interesting Syrahs we make. Clones 174 and 474 are grown adjacent to one another on the upper slopes of Colibri – and while the soils and ecological conditions are nearly identical, these genetic differences create noticeable variations in these wines. Black cherry, kirsch, licorice, white pepper, and sweet fennel are but a few of the amazing characters this wine reveals. The Arizona Oak also sneaks in hints of roasted nuts and dark caramel, adding yet another layer of complexity!
