23 Pillsbury Shiraz
100% Shiraz
Sam Pillsbury and I have been friends for well over a decade now. This man’s indomitable spirit never ceases to amaze me. He is a pioneer that preceded Page Springs Cellars and has many notches in his belt. To my knowledge, he was the first to plant Grenache in Arizona. He was also the first to plant Shiraz clones. Sam farms a beautiful site just north of Al Buhl Vineyard (what used to be Sam’s Dos Cabezas) and graces us with his exceptional fruit in special years. As his vineyards have matured, we have witnessed the wines increase in density and complexity. This beautiful example of Shiraz would make Sam proud and is loaded with wonderful blueberry and boysenberry characters as well as a hint of pepper and stone fruits.
Winemaker Tasting Notes: Concentrated dark fruits with aromas of candied boysenberry, blackberry and pecan. The supple and generous ripeness is balanced by matching acidity and dense fruits on the palate lending to a long, pleasing finish.
