One of our philosophies as winemakers is to “get out of the way” whenever possible...honoring the truest expression of the fruit and the place it came from. In 2014, the House Mountain Counoise was originally destined to be a red wine, but when the elements forced our hand to pick before ideal ripeness, we had a decision to make: manipulate this wine into something it wasn’t or honor the true nature of this grape as expressed in this vintage. We chose the latter and made a rosé. Today, we push this philosophy further by not adjusting color at all. Pressing the Counoise grape usually yields a white or very close to white wine and some blending in of red is needed to make a rosé. Thus, we have embraced the “Blanc de Noir”, a white wine from a black grape.
