When I left Arizona and trekked to California on a quest to become a winemaker, I always knew I would come back to plant my own vineyards.  In 2001, I met a gentleman at a conference named Jon Marcus who had planted grapes near Page Springs in an area called Echo Canyon.  In fateful happenstance, Jon asked me to become his winemaker and I returned to Arizona in late 2001. After 1½ years helping Jon, I went on to open Page Springs. Soon after my departure, Jon shuttered EC and put the place up for sale.  It sat fallow for years until the new owners, Lesli and Bruce Griffin, started replanting in 2018 and one of the blocks was Sangiovese!  21 years later we are making wine from EC again!
