In the world of white grapes, Roussanne is a blessing and a curse.  In the spring it is a godsend because it comes out quite late and usually avoids frost. And while it skirts the cold, it is also plagued by sensitivities to even the slightest nutrient deficiencies in the soil.  The stars aligned again this vintage and we had a great harvest in both ripeness and volume. Enough volume, in fact, that we decided to ferment a portion in barrel. Sur-lee contact, early oak extraction and a touch of tannin, are all results of fermenting in barrel, which produces a richer mouthfeel and lusciousness.  Try this wine side-by-side with our traditional Colibri Roussanne to experience the difference barrel fermentation presents.
