16 Dragoon Vineyard Albarino
100% Albariño
One if the beautiful things about pioneering a wine industry in an unestablished region, is the freedom it allows both winemakers and grape growers. No one has forged their own path in the vineyard, quite like John McLaughlin at Dragoon. Last I heard, he had ____ varieties planted on his ____ acers, many of them unique, and rarely planted in the U.S. One such grape, is albariño. Most famously from the Ríax Biaxas region, near Galicia, Spain, albariño is very much the embodiment of Galileo’s saying: “wine is sunlight, held together by water”, and the 2016 Dragoon albariño does not fall short of this embodiment. Bright, zesty, and crisp, with fruit notes ranging from fresh citrus, to fresh pineapple, and with an underlying, evocative, seashell minerality, this wine is a nod to what we love about European whites. A new favorite of our winemakers, it’s excellent now, with the potential for even more beauty, from a few years of aging.
