15 Dragoon Marselan
100% Marselan
Marselan, a cross of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, was created by French ampelographer Paul Truel in 1961 and was first planted in Arizona in 2008. While it can produce excellent wines, Grenache has had a troubled history due to the tightness of its clusters and thus its propensity to rot. Cabernet Sauvignon on the other hand has thick skins, small berries, and very loose clusters. From a grower’s perspective, Marselan is a dream! The wine is similarly amazing in that it combines the beautiful fruitiness of Grenache with some of the rustic green characters of Cab. We aged this in barrel for a full 14 months to get all the richness we could out of this wine. It should continue to age well in bottle and will show marked improvements over time.
