21 Colibri Petit Verdot

98% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon
The small block of grapes sits at the highest point in our famed Colibri Vineyard. Each year we look for weight, spice, color and depth of fruit in this wine and 2021 is yet another stunning example of this lesser-known Bordeaux variety. Because it is so late ripening, it fell out of favor in France as it tended to produce green, astringent wines. It has been gaining popularity throughout the world in warmer climates and is grown in at least 8 countries now including: Australia, Portugal, Chile and Argentina. It may also see a resurgence in France with warming trends in the region. Ample, fresh acidity is accompanied by mulberry, black cherry and currant and accents of asphalt, violets and toffee. This is a wine to be enjoyed after at least 3-5 years of cellaring.
