17 Pillsbury Petite Sirah

Sam Pillsbury and I have been friends for over a decade now. This man’s indomitable spirit never ceases to amaze me. He is a pioneer that preceded Page Springs Cellars and he has many notches in his belt. Sam farms a beautiful site just north of Al Buhl Vineyard (what used to be Sam’s Dos Cabezas) and graces us with his exceptional fruit each year. This is our third bottling of Sam’s Petite and we continue to be excited by how beautiful the wine is. Unlike easier drinking Petites of the past from Sam’s vineyard, this is a dark, brooding, ageable monster! Easily one of our most tannic wines from 2017, the dark cherry, cola, bittersweet chocolate and tarry notes also all suggest that this is very age worthy. While we don’t have a lot of track record with this particular wine, all signs are saying lay it down for at least 5+ years.
